Biography

Dundu is an illuminated large-scale puppet that has enthralled spectators worldwide. Though large in size, he is a gentle creature that glides between audience members with ease and grace, tickling fancies and chins along the way.

Dundu means ‘You and You’ (Du und Du) and the Dundu family, through years of stellar craftsmanship, original live music, and finely-tuned puppeteering, bring a visual, interactive, mobile experience to the public.

It is hard to describe the captivating nature of this glowing figure but when you see people’s eyes light up with awe, you know he has achieved the goal – to instill a simple sense of wonder and togetherness in adults and children alike. The only thing larger than this giant is his heart.

THE SOUND OF THE GIANTS
The unique sound world of the West African Kora-harp enlivens Dundu and supports the incredible atmosphere he brings. This amazing music is played by Stefan and has been conceived specifically for the performance. Stefan belongs to the few Europeans who excel in playing this rhythmically complex instrument that has been used for centuries as a means of opening channels for well-being and inner peace.

NOW COLOUR COMES INTO PLAY
For Dundu’s 10th anniversary, puppeteer and inventor Tobias and his creative collective crafted a new figure, Bimbi – The Amazing Grace.

Bimbi met Dundu onstage under the lights of an in-house theatre production. All attending shared the intimate tango the two found in their first dance. They are a truly unique couple, complementing each other perfectly. With the search for a companion and playmate now complete, they are enjoying dancing together on stages across the world.

Equipped with the latest advances in lighting technology, Bimbi possesses the ability to express her emotions vividly. It is the next step in Giant Puppet Art, fusing together performing art and contemporary design to great, beautiful effect.
