Sometimes described as “Ronnie Scotts By The Sea”, Joogleberry Playhouse was a gorgeously creative, quirky, intimate and shamelessly eclectic venue in Brighton’s heart where people came to eat, drink, dance and enjoy fantastic entertainment every single night of the week all year round. It was loved by musicians and audiences from far and wide for the overall ambience, attention to detail, quality of the musical programme and great service. Sue Popper, who now runs Joogleberry, was originator and co-founder of Joogleberry Playhouse.
Famous acts who graced the stage included the Kooks, Amy Winehouse, Nizlopi, Liane Carroll, Newton Faulkner and resident diva Viola Wills. Dotted between the stars of the renowned night time cityscape decor of the venue some may have spotted Sir Paul McCartney, Richard 0’Brien, Katie Mehlua, Clive Owen or Norman Cook and Zoe Ball enjoying a night out Joogleberry style.
At Joogleberry everybody was special and every night was memorable. People celebrated anniversaries, weddings, Bar Mitzvahs, civil ceremonies, big number birthday parties as well as everyday occasions. Quite simply it was the place to be and this was recognised in 2006 when Joogleberry won the prestigious BAHBA -Brighton and Hove Business award for being the “Best Venue To Entertain Your Clients”.
The five magical years of entertainment at Joogleberry Playhouse will go down in Brighton history as a golden era for all who performed there, celebrated parties, met their partners, marked occasions, hung out with friends, laughed, sang, danced and drank too much absinthe!
On selling the venue to Latest Homes towards the end of 2007 and no longer bound by the limitations of four walls and a ceiling, Sue Popper and Joogleberry now bring fabulous entertainment and friendly service right to your door and find you the right act for every event where-ever you are.
