To create an immersive experience for international VIP guests reflecting the medieval nature of the venue, featuring kings, queens and famous people through the ages, duelling knights, minstrels & jesters, followed by speeches in medieval & Shakespearian style to be performed during the Gala dinner for 750 guests in the Guildhall. This was entitled A Walk Through British History.
We worked closely with international events company Jackson Dawson on this largescale event for General Motors at the Guildhall, London. Joogleberry provided all the entertainment for this event as well as an MC for the full week’s activities for the guests prior to this.
On arrival the guests were to be greeted by a 21 piece Military Marching band. As they entered the building they were taken on a trip through British History encountering historical characters including King Arthur and Queen Guinevere, Queen Elizabeth 1, Shakespeare, duelling swordsmen, jesters and minstrels. These characters were not simply look alike but some made key speeches in character during dinner so it was vital to have well cast experienced actors to achieve this successfully. We provided a costumier to source some costumes and dress the actors at the event.
The 21 piece Military Marching band would perform in the courtyard then split into smaller Fanfare units used to draw guests into the main hall and on the balcony at the dinner to herald announcements and the start to the banquet.
After dinner another immersive performance was to occur this time featuring surprise Singing Waiters creating a fake commotion big enough to impact the whole room and then engage all guests in after dinner entertainment. The Singing Waiters had to be of a quality to inspire and entertain top level guests unlikely to be easily impressed. For this reason we chose to work with actual West End Stars.
The MC needed to be experienced in relating to international guests, able to put them at ease and involved throughout the whole week in a variety of informal and formal events in the city. He was required to dress to suit every event that took place during the week, with a traditional Red coat for evening events, a business suit for the business meetings and a period costume for the final Gala dinner at Guildhall.
This event was a large scale production involving site visits and lots of collaboration with our clients. We communicated via Skype between America/China/UK to develop the theme, working some odd hours to make sure we could all discuss at times to suit. Our discussions included the scripts for performers and MC’s, detailed discussion on the costumes for all performers and repertoire for the minstrels, marching band and the West End stars’ performance. This repertoire needed to tie in with the guests experiences during the week at Abbey Road Studios and be accessible to a wide range of cultures of guests attending the event. We also discussed the schedule and finer details of the event plan together.
We attended the event on the night in the role of artist liaison and were delighted to see first-hand how the guests and clients responded. The event was an overwhelming success and the MC we provided has since been requested for another international event by the same company.
“Thank you again for helping us put together such a wonderfully cast program! Your MC worked out beautifully and the clients are interested in having him return for next year – which is just great news! Overall, we had a number of changes and challenges along the way, and we certainly appreciate how you worked with a number of us to put together the Gala event. And of course, your singing waiters were the stars of the show – everyone loved them! Thank you again and I wish you all the best in your future endeavors!”Laura Shanley Bommarito, VP, International Operations, Jackson Dawson
