Biography

These Victorian Carol Singers sing a variety of traditional Victorian Carols but with a unique twist; adding fun and humour to the proceedings.

The “Walnut Crackers” are the back-up Carol Singing group from their local church. They like to perform traditional Christmas songs, but every third or fourth song you may find it becomes a little more animated and modernised, with dancing, gestures, and even physical storytelling thrown into the mix! You may find some of the lyrics mixed up so that we get medley songs with modern lyrics thrown in. But order is always restored as the Walnut Crackers know that to be taken seriously as Carol Singers they must stick to the traditional songs.

Once in every set they also play a simple Victorian parlour game, such as Pass the Slipper, perfect for entertaining the children. (In Pass the Slipper, The Caroller’s pass a slipper between the audience members and whichever carol singer is on, must decide which audience member has the slipper hidden behind their back). These parlour games are played whilst music is hummed over the top, continuing the musical theme. But order is restored, as the Caroller’s remind the audience that the Walnut Crackers will never advance to the lead team in their church, if they don’t give up all this fun! So the Walnut Crackers try their hardest to stick to traditional songs and singing style, with a cheeky wink in their eye.

(*All games and songs can be edited and more strict/formal carol singing can be provided.)
