Biography

The Santiago Quartet is a Classical Quartet, specialising in the performance of Latin American music. Formed in 2008 and reformed in late 2012, the Quartet represents the continuation and extension of a mission which began in Merida, Mexico in 2005. Originally Cuarteto Genêsis, the group took the name Santiago Quartet when two of its founding members moved to England after several years with the Yucatan Symphony Orchestra. Whilst working in Mexico, the musicians discovered a repertoire that is rarely or never performed in the United Kingdom.

Their interest in exploring this music led to performances with the Grammy Award winning Cuarteto Latino americáno, and at the 2008 International Chamber Music Festival in Mexico City’s Bellas Artes Theatre. This Quartet is particularly good if you’d like plenty of Latin repertoire. However they are happy to adapt to the clients’ needs and have a wide ranging repertoire of all styles.

Amazon Review

“These musicians really get under the skin of the music. Whilst the music stands at a crossroads between more popular and ‘classical’ genres, the musicians avoid any trace of superficiality to find its emotional heart, contrasting achingly reflective moments with the right amount of drive in the faster sections, and real pazazz”
Ray Picot, Vice Chairman, Iberian and Latin American Music Society
