Ida Barr Show

Biography

Ida Barr is a comedy character created by award-winning writer and actor Christopher Green.

She’s an old age pensioner who has embraced the music of today’s youth with her own brand of rap which she has dubbed “Artificial Hip Hop”. If you’re a lover of fresh and funky rhymes and beats about prescription medication, multi-cultural Britain and home helps who, due to phobia, are unable to dust dado rails, then you’ve found the MC for you.

Ida Barr is a music hall singer who has embraced hip hop and rap, reflecting the culturally diverse landscape of London’s East End, where she has been living in retirement for several decades.

She lives in Thabo Mbeki Court, shops at Lidl, has a warden called Mrs. Gupta, and a friend called Maude Edwardes (an elderly male impersonator with a shady past). She’s an inner-city pensioner in multi-cultural post-new Labour Britain. Her glory days are behind her but her creativity is still flowering. Ida Barr is a dab hand not only on the M.I.C., she’s also an amazing MC on her wheels of steel.

Ida is the perfect novelty comedy DJ for your party or event. She’s played at some of the biggest parties on a couple of continents, so if you’re looking for the best mix of upbeat party tunes and feel-good disco, look no further than Ida Barr, comedy DJ.

Ida favours the mashup. That mix of styles that fuses together two or more tracks into one. She does this with fearless skill so you find yourself dancing to a set that has your brain reeling with stimulation as tracks from all musical genres are fused with kicking beats that keep your feet in ecstasy.

Ida has DJ’d at private parties, corporate functions and arts events. Her DJing can be incorporated with a comedy stand-up set too. Either way, it’s very likely that everyone will end up doing the Hokey Cokey to a crunk beat at some point during the night.

Ida has released several albums, ‘Artificial Hip Hop’ and ‘Slipped Disco’. Her latest is called ‘Get Old Or Die Tryin”.

Ida is also the host of her own brand of bingo, featuring her patented calls, such as Idi Amin – 15, or I don’t speak Urdu – 22.

This show and Ida’s other shows have played all over the world, on a variety of media.

Ida really is “the people’s pensioner”. She has a legion of fans, and you’re bound to be one soon too.
