Biography

The 4 Tones are an authentic and energetic vocal doo-wop quartet who grew up listening to recordings of The Ink Spots, Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers, The Marcels and the Penguins. Inspired by the vocal storytelling of these iconic musicians, the 4 Tones decided to emulate this style of music and performed their own arrangement of “Sh-Boom” at a concert at The Theatre Royal, Norwich.

After the show, they were approached by two entertainment agencies who asked if they would take professional bookings. After that, the group never looked back and have been described as “the missing track from a Scorcese movie soundtrack”.

The group all have impressive solo performances and credits to their names, including working on cruise ships, doing national theatre tours, West End credits and working with some of the top function bands in the UK across various genres, including Rock, Jazz and big band.

They are now based near Norwich but spend time performing in and around London, Cambridge, Colchester, Norwich and elsewhere.

The 4 Tones bring close-harmony into the 21st century. Gone are the straw boaters, stripy jackets and bow ties. What remains are songs delivered with harmony and style performed by this modern-day barbershop quartet with (more than a little) charm and a dash of cheek.

They also provide a service of writing and arranging songs for special occasions and for jingles (an old-fashioned sing-a-gram service). They offer bespoke corporate jingles to suit events, companies or industry needs.

From 2010, the 4 Tones registered with Carbon Passport and have committed to offset all carbon created during gig travel. If you are thinking of booking them for your event, why not allow them to perform fully a capella? If they can leave their PA at home, this means they will be a fully carbon-neutral band and you will have helped play a part in that!

They can also use a solar-powered amplifier which is suitable for crowds of up to 100 people.

The 4 Tones currently mix their time between performing at weddings, festivals, the ’50s circuit and for corporate events and exhibitions where they also provide jingles and songwriting services.

They have sung for the Queen at Royal Ascot, Elton John and Arnold Schwarzenegger and were the subject of an exclusive 30 mins documentary about doo-wop on ‘The Jeremy Vine Show’ on BBC Radio 2 where they sung live and were interviewed about the genre.

The 4 Tones cover brand new modern songs such as ‘Uptown Funk’ and ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling’ as well as barbershop classics and doo-wop favourites.
