Off beat and On Key Acapella Doo Wop boy band The 4 Tones bring close-harmony into the 21st century; gone are the straw boaters, stripy jackets and bow ties: what remains are songs delivered with harmony and style performed by this modern day barbershop quartet with (more than a little) charm and a dash of cheek.
The 4 Tones are an authentic and energetic vocal Doo-Wop quartet who grew up listening to recordings of The Ink Spots, Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers, The Marcels and the Penguins among others and were “Transported to a magical musical era of storytelling vocal musicians in complete control of their craft that seemed to have passed our generation”. As a result of a love of these harmonies, they were inspired to go on to emulate the style and performed their own arrangement of “Sh-Boom” at a concert at The Theatre Royal, Norwich.
After the show, they were approached by two entertainment agencies who asked if they would take professional bookings. The group have never looked back and have been described as “The missing track from a Scorcese movie soundtrack”.
The group all have impressive solo performances and credits to their names, including working on cruise ships, doing national theatre tours, West End credits and working with some of the top function bands in the UK across various genres, including Rock, Jazz and big band.
They hail from the port town of Lowestoft on the East Coast – birthplace to Benjamin Britten and, indeed, can boast a relation to the famous composer (cousin twice removed – and boy do they boast!) They are now based near Norwich but spend time performing in and around London, Cambridge, Colchester, Norwich and elsewhere.”AND TOGETHER…
…are the 4 Tones.”
The 4 Tones bring close-harmony into the 21st century; gone are the straw boaters, stripy jackets and bow ties: what remains are songs delivered with harmony and style performed by this modern day barbershop quartet with (more than a little) charm and a dash of cheek.
They also provide a service of writing and arranging songs for special occasions and for jingles (an old-fashioned sing-a-gram service). Corporate bespoke jingles available to suit events, companies or industry.
From 2010, the 4 Tones have registered with Carbon Passport and have committed to offset all carbon created during gig travel. If you are thinking of booking them for your event – why not allow them to perform fully acapella. If they can leave their PA at home, this means they will be a FULLY CARBON NEUTRAL BAND for your event and you will have helped play a part in that!
Alternatively, they could bring their solar powered amplifier which is suitable for crowds of up to 100 people.
The 4Tones currently mix their time between performing at weddings, festivals, the 50’s circuit and for corporate events and exhibitions where they also provide jingles and songwriting services. They are still as passionate about making their own vocal harmony music as they were when they first played a Crew Cuts record and they enjoy, with equal measure,
performing acapella at a small and intimate wedding with or without amplification as they are being the feature performance onstage at a large function using backing tracks or with their live band.
They have recently sung for the Queen at Royal Ascot, Elton John and Arnold
Schwarzenegger (but not at the same time!) and were the subject of an exclusive 30 minute documentary about Doo-Wop on The Jeremy Vine show on BBC Radio 2 where they sung live and were interviewed about the genre.
The 4Tones cover brand new modern songs such as Uptown Funk and Can’t Stop the Feeling as well as barbershop classics and Doo-Wop favourites. If you are interested in booking the group, get in touch – they are completely flexible about how they do what they do and can tailor their performance(s) to best suit your vision. They work hard to compliment the theme, atmosphere or branding of your event.
Whether providing featured or background songs at a wedding or fronting a marketing campaign; they offer a totally bespoke musical service that will make your event memorable and unique and will give you the reassurance that you are dealing with a ‘safe pair of hands’ who care as much about your event as they do.Read more
