Alvaro Guarnido
Award-winning flamenco dancer Alvaro Guarnido was born in Granada, southern Spain. Dancing was his passion almost from the moment he could walk, and from then on, flamenco became his way of life. As well as being an incredible performer, Alvaro is also a dedicated flamenco teacher and gives regular lessons in Brighton and Hove.
Biography
He was brought up in an environment where music and dance played an important role. His mother used to sing in a flamenco choir of which Alvaro became a part and started to play the castanets, at only five years old. His mother noticed that when Alvaro used to watch his sister dance he learned the steps by himself in no time. She decided to enroll him in a flamenco class to see if he would enjoy it, and since then, Alvaro has become a passionate dancer.
Alvaro has learned from some remarkable teachers including Silvia Lozano (1995-2009) and Mayte Galan (2003-2005). He has taken part in many competitions and TV shows and won the national Spanish Sevillanas competition for four consecutive years from 1999 until 2002. In 1999, he was the first finalist of the Andalucian TV competition Veo Veo and in 2001 was the second finalist in the Danza Española competition in Torremolinos Spain.
During the last 15 years, this passionate Spanish dancer has performed in renowned Spanish theatres such as Manuel de Falla, Isabel la Católica, Tablao flamenco de la Chumbera and many more.
Alvaro is also a dedicated teacher of his art and gives regular lessons in Brighton and Hove in the United Kingdom. He says: “I live for dancing, I love dancing and it is wonderful to have the chance to pass on my passion to others.”
