Biography

Biography

Prepare to be amazed at just how far these chaps have gone to make their fantasy a reality. They’ve given their penny-farthing bicycles a “biplane upgrade”!

They look like planes, they sound like planes, and they fly like…well, like bicycles!

Sadly, the only thing up in the clouds is their heads. Are they really magnificent men, or just ‘plane’ deluded?

What makes the Bicycle Pilots so special?
Well, first and foremost, it’s completely unique. There’s nothing quite like this act anywhere in the world. These are highly detailed replica biplanes, with a penny-farthing bicycle for an undercarriage.

There are two loudspeakers cunningly disguised as the exhausts from the engine and a powerful sub-woofer hidden inside the fuselage. These play tunes such as ‘Ride of the Valkyries’, The Dam Busters theme, ‘633 Squadron’ theme, ‘Come Fly With Me’, and many sound effects.

The pilots also have complete control of the propellers, so they spin when they should spin, and don’t when they shouldn’t.

Down to every last detail, they’ve got it covered!

They also have branding options
You can have your company logo splashed across their wings! Everything about these beauties can be customised. The fuselage, the wings, even the wingtips and engine cowling can be colour-coordinated. They can change the music that comes through the onboard sound systems too, or intermittently play adverts.

“Flyabout” Performances
This is a highly versatile act that excels in many different environments. They can cover large areas quickly and with the greatest of ease, on almost any terrain.

Although the biplanes boast a large wingspan, the penny-farthing bicycles are actually highly manoeuvrable because of their short wheelbase and very tight turning circle. Large crowds are easily negotiated.

They “fly” around your event, bringing as much energy and atmosphere as they can, searching for appropriate places where they can “land” – normally where they’ve spotted the opportunity to engage in lots of chit-chat and fire off plenty of comedy sound effects.

Occasionally they find themselves surrounded by people of a certain age group, and they’ve discovered that nothing beats having a good old-fashioned singalong with Dame Vera Lynn playing through the biplane’s sound system. It has made many of their performances a very touching and emotional experience, not just for their audiences, but for them too!

“Groundobatics” displays
Yes folks, they’ve invented a new word! Whenever suitable moments arise, they perform their ground-based aerobatics display. Choreographed to the music playing from their sound systems, they will risk their lives for the sake of entertainment! Involving fly-bys, near-misses, death-stalls, and many other manoeuvres in perfect synchronicity.

Parades
If your event has a parade, they can come in really useful here! They can offer a pre-parade warm-up and a post-parade wind-down.

Once the parade route has been secured, they can ride the full length of the course, entertaining as they go. Once they reach the end, they turn around and do much the same all the way back to the start, or to wherever the parade has reached by that time. They can then drop to the back of the parade and use the space behind it to continue entertaining. Not only does this give them their ideal performance scenario, but it effectively doubles the amount of enjoyment for the crowds whilst they wait for the parade to arrive.

Bicycle Pilots are perfect for: Wartime and 1940s themed parties, VE Day celebrations and vintage festivals looking for fun, interactive comedy entertainment.
