JAKE SHILLINGFORD + CHRIS SIMMONS + DAN SHEARS
Jake Shillingford is singer/songwriter and founder of the cult orchestral alternative band My Life Story. A key player during the Britpop years, the large 13-piece ensemble was a huge favourite on the live circuit performing over 500 flamboyant shows around the world.
MLS released 3 albums, countless singles and achieved 6 top 40 hits in the UK with massive pop anthems like 12 Reasons Why I Love Her, Strumpet and It's a Girl Thing. One of the original so called DIY practitioners, incredibly Shillingford released the first ever internet only single in 1998, affectionately titled If You Can't Live Without Me Then Why Aren't You Dead Yet?
More recently, he has released 2 dark electronic pop albums under the name ExileInside through his own imprint Exilophone Records and ever so slight nod to his former label Parlophone. After a 6-year hiatus, Jake reformed My Life Story in 2006 alongside twelve original members to promote a ‘best of ‘ album to sell out crowds at The London Astoria and more recently, a Christmas show at The Shepherds Bush Empire.
This year sees Shillingford release his debut solo album 'Written Large' on March 17th 2008. The album contains acoustic renditions of MLS classics as well as new material. He plans to promote the album with acoustic performances around the UK in 2008.
Recent praise for 'Sex & Violins - The Best of My Life Story' :
Q Magazine: Killer melodies and Shillingford's masterful, Scott Walker-ish vocal phrasing
Record Collector: Classy big picture pop
Steve Lamacq, Radio 1: One of our most colourful lyricists

SAMSARA + BAD SANDWICH + LEE WESTWOOD
Brighton favourites Samsara return to the Joogleberry to bring their madcap antics and carnivalesque musical hedonism to Brighton once again, and with some brand new material! After a winter spent making waves around the country, and launching the legendary Comm:UNITY music and performance events at the Komedia in Brighton along with other members of the collective- Samsara have managed to release their debut album' Full Circle', and get booked to play at Glastonbury 2008!
Mixing reggae with latin, folk and ska flavours, and with carefully crafted songs and conscious lyricism, expect an evening of infectious positivity, musical dexterity and boundless energy. Dancing shoes on!
This eclectic funklumpy four-piece aways bring the party and good vibes with old skool nods and new skool sensibilities. The'hypersexadelicdirtyfunk-a-rockindisco circus' grace the Joogleberry with their own style of intoxicatingly energetic funk-Dub!
"Very rarely is technical wizardry on an instrument used to say something that otherwise could not be said. Lee manages that and it's a pleasure to hear. One man, an acoustic and (apparently) four hundred thousand fingers." - Giles Duffy, Rocks Magazine 2006
Opening the night is Brighton-based virtuoso guitarist composer Lee Westwood. Lee exploits the instrument's many facets to create eclectic modern lullabies for the steel strung acoustic guitar. With strong influences from the sounds of jazz, classical and folk music, Lee's compositions are astonishing tapestries reminiscent of many different musical styles that evoke vivid emotions. Not to be missed!
"...an emerging acoustic instrumentalist with blazing technique, ensuring the fingerpicking tradition remains in safe hands."

The style of music is refreshing and dynamic. With the production of King-Pin and Si-Fi complementing the talented writing and performance of Nemma, Silable and LJ, they have created a sound that can be appreciated by many. DJ Off-Key is also a skilled performer who adds something unique on the microphone and as a turntabilist. JONAS KULLHAMMAR QUARTET
Jonas Kullhammar has passed over the Swedish jazz scene like a whirlwind. His debut won him Sweden Radio's Jazz Cat as the newcomer of the year. He followed up his success with 'The Soul of Jonas Kullhammar' and 'Plays Loud For the People' receiving excellent reviews and a nomination for the Swedish Grammy Award. He also received the Django D'or award and the prized Sweden Jazz Cat as Jazz Musician of The Year in Sweden two years in a row. The group was also nominated for the EuroDjango award for the Best New Talent in Jazz this year.
The music reveals a young, amazingly energetic saxophone player already a complete musician and composer. For comparisons you have to go to Sonny Rollins, one of the giants of jazz. Jonas prefers the same very rhythmically flowing and dense spirit. The quartets style of playing is putting the cool back into jazz with a perfect balance between expressionism, groove and attitude. JKQ are releasing their best selling albums ‘The Soul of Jonas Kullhammar’ and ‘Plays Loud for the People’ through Interlude Records onto the UK market.
JKQ has developed into a great success in the Nordic region with sales reaching 10,000 copies. Recent performance highlights include Stockholm Jazz Festival, Oslo Jazz Festival and Aberdeen Jazz Festival.

THE LONG GOODBYE + SWEET SWEET LIES
"The Long Goodbye" is led by singer songwriter Alfie Bernardi, a talented multi instrumentalist who quotes Neil Young, Ryan Adams and Wilco as the band's main influences. His lyrics have been described as "haunting, introspective, and painfully real" and his voice as "unique, passionate and impossibly filled with emotion". After a successful career as a sideman in several bands, and sharing stages with the likes of Nick Cave, Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros, Chaka Khan and Paul Young, Alfie started working on what started as a solo album and slowly evolved into The Long Goodbye sound, aided by Brighton guitarist Jake MacKay, who has been playing since the tender age of 7 and is now a full time member of the band. 18 year old drummer Nyall Croucher adds solid and sophisticated rhythms while bassist James Lock is also a very talented singer and guitarist in his own right. Together they craft reflective songs about lost love, hope, desolation and restlessness and take their all-night heartbreaks to the masses." http://www.myspace.com/thelonggoodbyepage
“Sweet Sweet Lies” style is best described as “A crudely drawn mix of folk, bluegrass, and post-punk. they draw reference from such influences as Johnny Cash, Nick Cave, Willie Nelson, Tom Waits and Kurt Weill. In the six months they have been together they have achieved radio play on Radio Reverb, Juice FM, and have played a host of top venues around the country, as well as "The Great Escape", they are on the bill for this year's "Isle Of Wight Festival" and "Glastonbury" Here's a review: “For fans of Johnny Cash, Hove resident Nick Cave or Leonard Cohen, look no further than Sweet Sweet Lies. Vocalist Dominic Von Trapp’s voice is as smooth as it is haunting and his lyrics are witty and full of pathos. Augmented by co-conspirator Michael Hayes’s guitar work, his simple yet touching songs linger in the mind long after they’re gone.” Marcus Hamblett.
