The Silent Movie Experience

David Watts invites you to see silent movies like you've never seen them before!
West End musician and performer David Watts creates a live soundtrack to classic silent movies with music and effects in a quirky 1920s style entertainment.
Back in the 1920s, when the silent movies arrived at the local picture house, it was up to the in-house pianist or organist to improvise a suitable musical accompaniment on the piano or organ that would enhance the story line and give an atmosphere to the movie.
If you watch a silent movie with a pre-recorded soundtrack, you are definitely missing out. See these movies as they were meant to be seen, with live music!
David Watts has just completed a successful sell-out run of 'The Silent Movie Experience' at the 2010 Brighton Fringe Festival.
David Watts works in many different areas of the music business including film, TV, Radio and Theatre. His credits include numerous top brand TV commercials, three solo albums and a Symphony released on Sanctuary Classics. He also worked as Assistant Musical Directror for Andrew Lloyd Webber in the West End production of 'Cats.'
Review:
David Watts invited his audience to step back into the early years of the twentieth century and discover the wonder of silent films. Part comedy performance, part history lesson, Watts introduced his films with passion and dedication. He showed 1921′s ‘Never Weaken’, with Harold Lloyd, and Charlie Chaplin’s ‘The Cure’, from 1919. Full of brilliant comic timing, slapstick, real stunt work and amazingly expressive facial expressions, they are a peak into a more innocent time. Meanwhile, Watts provided musical accompaniment and sound effects with props, whilst holding up signs telling us what to shout at the screen at opportune moments. Great fun.
