Boogaloo Stu

"Pop culture guru” - BBC.CO.UK
Boogaloo Stu is perhaps best be described as a "showbiz multi-tasker". Nightclub disc-jockey, apparel designer extraordinaire, raconteur, presenter, media mogul, cartoonist, singer-songwriter; his creative juices have spilled over into many different aspects of the arts through the years always leading to many fervent and triumphant adventures in the world of showbiz.

A prodigious fashion talent, he launched his own knitwear label in the early 90's aged just 18. His collections were snapped up by boutiques around the globe and won him an army of celebrity fans including Kylie, Bjork and Mariah Carey. Busy with too many other projects, Stu relinquished that particular career-strand but continues to make all his stage costumes, designing and making “everything down to pants and socks” from reclaimed retro fabrics.

In the bloom of youth, Stu founded a long-running nightclub institution (Dynamite Boogaloo) in Brighton, where Boogaloo Stu - DJ and performer - was born. Encompassing a unique and inspired pop playlist, the night also featured legendary performance pieces from Stu and his associates. 18 years on and the Dynamite Boogaloo brand is still drawing a loyal crowd of followers.

DJ-ing opportunities presented themselves and it wasn't long before he launched his own London night, Shinky Shonky. He was soon in demand at other venues, and regular stage shows at other bastions of alternative clubbing such as Duckie soon followed. As a guest star in Duckie's Olivier Award-winning show "C'est Barbican", Stu's antics were given free reign. More recently Stu displayed his Latin American dancing skills in "School Of Dance", his Christmas show at the Barbican Centre, with his partner Miss High Leg Kick.

Singing has always been an important part of Boogaloo Stu's stage repertoire; combined with his encyclopaedic musical knowledge, it was only natural that Stu's creativity should find further expression in songwriting and recording.

His very first single release "Rocksteady" initially appeared as a limited edition back in 2002 (re-released in 2006). His debut album “The Glambassador” was released in 2004; his new album "Enough About You...Let's Talk About Me" was released in 2008 to yet more critical acclaim and spawned 3 singles including the radio hit "Magnetic Heart".
